Mango in Malaysia

One of the most widely used words for mango in Malaysia and Java is mangga, which is derived from the Tamil ‘manga’.

In Malaysia the fruit is marketed fresh, dried and as a juice and is used as a source of flavors, fragrances and colorants.

Kerabu
Mangoes aren’t always eaten ripe. People here regularly eat green mangoes seasoned with salt or soy sauce.

Grated green mangoes also make tasty additions to salads, relishes and chutneys in Malaysia. Green mango used in sour salad or rojak is famous in Malaysia.

Another one is ‘kerabu’ mango made within shredded green mango also famous in the country especially northern region.
