The mango will tolerate a wide range of climates, from warm temperate to tropical. The best climate to grow mangoes is frost free with cool, dry winters and steamy, hot summers.
It thrives well in almost all the regions of the country from sea level to an altitude of 600 m. In addition to altitude, temperature, rainfall, and the wind velocity also influence growth and production of mango. Mango thrives well under humid and dry conditions.
The ideal temperature range for mango is 75° -81 °C during the growing season, along with high humidity. Higher temperature during fruit development and maturity gives better-quality fruits.
If temperatures drop below 40 °F, even for short periods, the cold may kill both flowers and small fruits.
Mature trees may be more capable of surviving colder temperatures, as low as 25 °F, but only for brief periods. Young trees are likely to suffer severe damage any time temperatures drop below 30 °F, even if only briefly.
It fruits best in areas of low rainfall and low relative humidity at flowering, fruit setting and harvest, and with a warm to hot climate during fruit development.
A rainfall range of 890-1,015 mm in a year is considered as ideal for growing mangoes. However, mango can be grown in regions of both heavy (2540 mm) or scanty (254 mm) rainfall.
