Mango fruit contain amino acids, carbohydrates, fatty acids, minerals, organic acids, proteins and vitamins.
Lipid components in mangoes, though found in minor quantities, are resumed to contribute to the characteristics aroma and flavour of mangoes.
Although mango fruits do not store lipids, these compounds have been associated with color and flavor development during ripening. The vast majority of lipids in mango are esters of long chain fatty acids. In mango fruits, the fatty acid oxidizing activity increases with ripening, while several fatty acids (particularly linoleic and oleic acids) decrease during ripening.
The fatty acid composition in fruit pulp has direct relationship with the aroma and flavour of mango fruit. An unusual fatty acid, named mangiferic acid, has been identified in the pulp of mango fruit which constitutes 5.4% of total acyl groups in the pulp lipids.

Morphology of mango fruit
The mango fruit is a large, fleshy drupe, containing an edible mesocarp of the varying thickness. The mesocarp is resinous and highly variable with respect to shape, size, colur, presence of the fiber and flavor.
The outer thin and leathery part is the epicarp. Epicarp is thick yellowish to reddish in color. The endocarp, the innermost is hard and stony.
The exocarp is thick and glandular. Mesocarp is surrounding a fibrous, hard stone containing a single seed.
The seed may be either monoembryonic or polyembryonic, with fruit of the former classified as Indian India and the latter as Indo-Chinese.

Mango and diabeticRecent studies by Australian researchers showed that eating mango can help to fight against diabetic.
Mango have also role to help treatment of metabolic disorder. Actually there are a lot of researches done looking at nutritional value of temperate fruit but not at tropical fruit.
What is diabetes? Diabetes is occurred when the amount of glucose in blood is too high, and the body didn’t use it in as per requirement.
Glucose normally comes from food eaten. Glucose then is converted to the energy as required by the body by chemical name insulin. Insulin produced by pancreas. If not enough insulin produced then diabetes will occur.
Eating mango everyday can help people fighting against high cholesterol as well as diabetes. Research shows that components in mango have a similar function of diabetes and cholesterol drugs.
Research suggests some compounds in mangoes work by activating or inhibiting groups of receptors known as peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors.
Mangos too have other chemical compound such as norathyriol, a by-product of mangiferin, and also quercetin. Still under research if the compounds can kill cancerous cell.

Mangoes are full packed with vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants and contain like all fruits very few proteins, fats and calories.
Mangos contain also a lot of tryptophan, the precursor of the "happiness-hormone" serotonin. What is tryptophan. Tryptophan is one of the 20 standard amino acids, as well as an essential amino acid in the human diet. It is encoded in genetic code as the codon UGG.
Only the L-stereoisomer of tryptophan is used in structural or enzyme proteins, but the D-stereoisomer is occasionally found in naturally produced peptides (for example, the marine venom peptide contryphan). The distinguishing structural characteristic of tryptophan is that it contains an indole functional group.
Mango (Mangifera indica) has been proven to be a good complementary food for children of weaning age. It meets the vitamin and energy requirements of children of 6-24 months of age at three servings a day and at the FAO average breast-feeding frequency.
Mangiferin commonly used as antioxidant for medical purposes. Mangiferin from the leaves has been reported to possess anti-inflammatory, diuretic, chloretic and cardiotonic activities and displays a high antibacterial activity against gram positive bacteria.
It has been recommended as a drug in preventing dental plaques. Mangiferin shows antiviral effect against type I herpes simplex virus which could be useful in anti-herpes ointments.
The bark of the mango tree contains 16 - 20% tannin and also mangiferine. It acts ad stringent and is believed to possess a tonic action on the mucous membrane. It is anathematic, useful in hemoptysis, hemorrhage, nasal catarrh, diarrhea, ulcers, diphtheria, rheumatism and for lumbrici. It is also used in diphtheria and rheumatism.
